About David & Jennifer Raezer
We are the authors and the couple behind Approach Guides, a series of cultural travel guidebooks that take an in-depth look at the history, art and architecture of cultural sites throughout Italy, India, China, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Turkey and the Americas. You can read more about the story behind our travel guides, but let us take a moment to give you some background on us and the site.

Have you ever visited a cultural site and wondered exactly why it is so important, what makes it unique among other sites, why you should care? Do you long for a guidebook that does more than just list dates and facts, but rather explains what to look for (and where to find it), the amazing confluence of events that led to a site’s construction…and why it remains standing, having sloughed off the ravages of time and wars.

Approach Guides Blog: ‘Local Luxury’
The Approach Guides Blog focuses on “local luxury” — we highlight hotels, restaurants and shopping that adds to the cultural travel experience. For example, we feature boutique cultural hotels that take on characteristics of a place, such as a cave hotel in Cappadocia or a courtyard hotel in Dubai. Recommended restaurants focus on local foods and shopping on local purchases that you will rarely be able to acquire outside of that location.

Our Other Passion: Wine
Besides traveling, we really like wine … a lot. To combine our passion for travel and wine, we developed Approach Guides Wine, a wine app for the iPhone, iTouch and iPad. The app, which gives you a strategy for choosing wine without having to rely on bottle reviews, is perfect for travelers for two reasons: 1) you can use it to “drink local” and experience the local wines of each place you visit, and 2) our app never requires an internet connection, making it perfect for those who want to avoid expensive international data plans.
